The nominations are in and there are hundreds of reasons to celebrate. This year, the Racine Unified School District (RUSD) had more than 700 students nominated for the Black History Youth Achievement Awards.

These awards were created 38 years ago to celebrate students of color in the Racine Community. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade can be nominated in four categories:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Athletic Achievement
  • Excellence in the Arts
  • “Super Person”

Students who won awards will be celebrated at a special event held at Memorial Hall on Saturday, February 25th. (Full recipient list here) This program is a collaboration between RUSD and City of Racine Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services.
