The selection committee for the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Student Scholarship, Teacher Fellowship and Principal Leadership program has announced the recipients of the Herb Kohl Foundation awards for Wisconsin students, teachers and principals.

RUSD has a principal, student and teacher receiving awards and a scholarship.

Adam Beyer with Racine Alternative Learning is a Teacher Fellowship recipient, which comes with a $6,000 award. Teacher Fellowship awards are given to educators with a superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, their ability to motivate others and their leadership and service within and outside the classroom. Beyer is one of 100 teachers in the state to receive the award this year.

Dr. Curt Shircel, principal of The R.E.A.L. School, received a Principal Leadership Award. The award is given to principals who set high standards for instruction, achievement and character, and create a climate to best serve students, families, staff and community. Dr. Shircel is one of just 17 principals in Wisconsin to earn the award and its $6000 prize.

Finally, Dani Harlow, a senior at The R.E.A.L. School was named an Initiative Scholarship recipient and awarded a $10,000 scholarship. Initiative Scholarship recipients are chosen by their schools, have overcome significant obstacles or adversity, have demonstrated exceptional initiative in the classroom and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond, but have not yet received other academic-based scholarships.

Congratulations to our staff and student!
