Greetings Racine Unified School District (RUSD) families and community.
I’m Soren Gajewski, proud RUSD Superintendent. I have been part of the Racine community, in one way or another, for the last 46 years. I’ve raised my my own family here since 2006 and I have many friends, colleagues and former students here. That is why I am so passionate about serving Racine - this community is MY community.
I have worked in this District for nearly two decades. Before stepping into the role of superintendent, I served as interim superintendent, chief academic officer, deputy chief of schools and principal, but my career began as a teacher in the Milwaukee Public School District after earning both my bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from UW-Milwaukee.
To me, public education is, and ought to be, the greatest opportunity for ALL children to learn the skills, concepts and character to become lifelong learners, contributors to society and ultimately achieve their dreams. It is critical to me that our school system adapt to societal and economic changes in order to adequately prepare students for careers of their lifetime. While we have a lot of traditions in public education, it is important to balance those with introducing the most up-to-date and relevant experiences. And, I am passionate that ALL students, regardless of their background, have the same opportunity to pursue and achieve success.
When I’m not at work, I can be found following my children’s passions. My four children are all pursuing their goals - whether it’s baseball, track or post-secondary learning - and being a supportive father is very important to me. I am proud of all of them and the direction they are going! It’s also safe to say I enjoy the game of baseball. I follow the Milwaukee Brewers with considerable intensity and will always cheer on the team, even when they’re struggling! Outside of baseball season, I am usually spending time with my wife and friends, be it at a festival, dinner or traveling.
We have great things happening in RUSD and there’s so much more to come. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve our students, our staff and the Racine community and I am glad you are here to be part of it!
