One of the best ways to learn is by trying new things and that’s exactly what the students and staff at Fratt Elementary are doing. The school was recently selected to pilot a new writing program designed to help students plan, organize and improve their writing.
thinkSRSD is the new step-by-step approach teachers are using to make it easier for students to get their ideas down on paper by not only teaching them what to write but also how to think about their writing. The staff at Fratt say it’s resulting in students developing stronger writing skills, improved critical thinking skills and greater confidence in expressing ideas. An additional perk of this approach is that it connects to the method RUSD teachers use for teaching reading, helping a student’s reading and writing skills improve together.
Fratt students are seeing such tremendous success that the school was recently highlighted by thinkSRSD for just how much growth students' showed from fall to winter. In addition, due to the success at Fratt, the Racine Unified School District (RUSD) has decided to expand the writing program into additional schools next year, and the staff at Fratt will be helping them implement it.
