Information about City Bus Partnership with RUSD
Over almost a two-year break from the partnership due to COVID-19 public transportation restrictions, RUSD will be returning to our pre-pandemic decades-old partnership with the City of Racine and its City transportation services (RYDE). RUSD will again utilize RYDE to transport student’s 6th grade through 12th grade to and from school. If a student in the given grade level resides within a half mile of an existing RYDE bus line and lives 2 miles or over from their assigned school, they will be assigned to and given a city bus pass from the school district to ride the bus to their school and back again.
District Transportation Requirements
Students residing two (2) miles or more from their attendance area school or on a street deemed hazardous are eligible for transportation. It is the parent/guardian responsibility to provide transportation to/from school for students living within two (2) miles of the school they are attending. All initial determinations for transportation are determined by your residential address. To determine if your address qualifies for transportation, click here.
My School, My Choice Acceptance Exceptions:
Transportation will be provided for students attending Jefferson Lighthouse Elementary School, Red Apple Elementary School, REAL Middle and High School, Walden III Middle and High School, Gilmore Fine Arts and Starbuck Middle School (IB) as long as the main District requirements are met (e.g. a family lives more than 2 miles away from the school). For all schools not listed above, parents/guardians who select and are accepted to an alternative attendance area school (e.g. Live in Jerstad-Agerholm boundary, but select Mitchell) are responsible for transportation to and from school.
