Busing Eligibility

District Transportation Requirements
Students residing two (2) miles or more from their attendance area school or on a street deemed hazardous are eligible for transportation.  It is the parent/guardian responsibility to provide transportation to/from school for students living within two (2) miles of the school they are attending.  All initial determinations for transportation are determined by your residential address. My School, My Choice Acceptance Exceptions:
Transportation will be provided for students attending Jefferson Lighthouse Elementary School, Red Apple Elementary School, REAL Middle and High School, Walden III Middle and High School, Gilmore Fine Arts and Starbuck Middle School (IB) as long as the main District requirements are met (e.g. a family lives more than 2 miles away from the school). For all schools not listed above, parents/guardians who select and are accepted to an alternative attendance area school (e.g. Live in Jerstad-Agerholm boundary, but select Mitchell) are responsible for transportation to and from school.

Monthly City Bus Passes Now Available for Purchase

RUSD has partnered with the City of Racine to sell monthly city bus passes to students in grades 6-12 that are not eligible for transportation (i.e., live under 2 miles from their school). Families can purchase monthly city bus passes for use during school days. Monthly passes will be available for purchase one week prior to the start of each month.
The monthly passes will cost $35.00 per month. During months that school is not in session for multiple days, (example: Nov. and Dec.) passes will be $30.00. View the full monthly payment schedule here. Please note, monthly rates will not be prorated.  
RUSD families can purchase their monthly city bus Monday - Friday between 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM (Our doors are locked at 4:30 PM) at the RUSD Transportation Office. 3109 Mount Pleasant Street ▪ BLDG #2 ▪ DOOR B. Anyone over the age of 18 with a valid ID, may pick up the city bus pass. Only electronic payments will be accepted. Cash will not be accepted.
