RUSD offers a wide variety of choices for parents.

RUSD Virtual Learning (K-12)

RUSD Virtual Learning provides opportunities for student success outside the traditional classroom in challenging, leading-edge ways through virtual coursework and mentorship. Our students learn from dedicated online teachers but also have the opportunity to meet in-person for field trips and when additional help is needed. Students can also participate in extracurriculars and athletics through their home school.

Montessori

Goodland Montessori is expanding to a K-8 school, making the Montessori Program available through 8th grade. Montessori education is a method of education based on self-directed learning activities that emphasize learning through all five senses and in multi-age classrooms. 

Elementary Schools

Red Apple Elementary School (STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math)
At Red Apple School, the focus is the five components of science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Instruction moves at a rapid pace in order to allow more time for the various extended activities and special projects. In the fall of 2025, Red Apple will reopen in a brand new building as a K-8 school. 

K-8 Schools

  • Gilmore Fine Arts offers a world-class fine arts program with specialized instruction in art, instrumental music, choral music, drama and dance. The fun and passionate fine arts approach encourages students to develop creativity, focus, self-expression and identity.
  • Beginning in the fall of 2024, Starbuck, an International Baccalaureate World School will serve kindergarten through eighth grade students with both the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme. The IB Programme is designed to develop active learners and internationally minded students through rigorous curriculum and project-based learning.

Middle & High Schools 

  • Walden III Middle and High School (Grades 6-12) is an alternative middle and high school. Its mission is to be student-centered and staff-driven; to use individualized performance assessment; to find ways to motivate each student; to create a family atmosphere; to have personal relationships with students and their families.

  • The R.E.A.L. School (Grades 6-12) cultivates an environment that excites young people about learning. A partnership with Gateway Technical College offers the opportunity for students to receive up to 27 college credits in engineering and access state-of-the-art technology by taking courses at the S.C. Johnson iMet Center.
