In response to Lake Michigan drownings last summer, the Park High School SkillsUSA students partnered with Racine Professional Firefighters Local 321, the Racine Founder's Rotary and the city of Racine Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department to create a solution that will help keep Racine swimmers safer. Local 321 and Rotary were able to purchase 150 life preserver vests in three sizes (adult, youth and infant) as well as 12 throw rings.

Park High School students were tasked with creating boxes to store the life preservers at North Beach and Zoo Beach.

During her recent visit to the Academies of Racine, State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly learned about the life preserver project from our students.
