Schulte's band and orchestra consists of a 4th grade orchestra, 5th grade orchestra and a 5th grade band. Some orchestra members who start in 5th grade will play with the 4th grade orchestra.
Students can begin playing musical instruments in orchestra in 4th grade. Starting in 5th grade, students can join the band. The orchestra consists of violins, violas, cellos and basses. The band contains flutes, oboes, clarinets, alto and tenor saxophones, french horns, trumpets, trombones, baritones and percussion.
This program is heavily performance-based. In addition to having two school concerts per year, the students have played for concerts around the city including fundraisers and the two largest instrumental festivals in the city: Band-A-Rama and Orchestra Fest, which are held on alternating years.
