West Ridge Peer Mediators

placeholder

Peer Mediators are 4th and 5th grade students who help keep peace among their peers and on the playground.

Each spring, 3rd and 4th grade homeroom teachers recommend students who show empathy and demonstrate good problem solving skills to be trained as peer mediators for the next school year. After recommended students have parent permission, they are trained during a week-long session at summer school.

Once the school year begins, Peer Mediators work with students who are having issues with others. They are available on the peace bridge outside at recess and for mediations during recess. Many students have been able to resolve conflicts and disagreements through these mediations.

Peer Mediator advisors are Mrs. Maureen Ellis and Mr. Mark  Westhoff.
