History

Opened in 1955, the school is named after Samuel C. Johnson (1833-1919), founder of SC Johnson Wax, a distinguished Racine company and a benefactor of educational projects in the area.

The school is laid out in three clusters: one for classrooms K-2, another for 3-5, and the third for the administration and community center.  Additions to the school took place in 1960 and 1991.

The first principal of the school was Mr. Alfred Held.

Lighted School House

S.C. Johnson has an after-school enrichment program for its students called Lighted School House. Students who attend Lighted School House participate in several fun learning sessions Monday-Thursday from 2:05-5:00 p.m. Students have snack time and receive help with homework, science, RAZ kids, First in Math, Compass Learning and Sparks physical education program. Lighted School House focuses on a project-based learning environment.

Title I

S.C. Johnson is a school-wide Title I site. This means the school receives state and federal money to pay for extra staff members. These staff members work with small groups of children to give them additional reading support. S.C. Johnson also uses this Title money to fund parent learning activities that benefit staff and students.

Student Services

SC Johnson Support Services include a School Social Worker, Counselor and School Psychologist, who offer several services to assist our students and their families. These services focus on assisting the student's social emotional learning as well as academic success. This may also include referrals to community resources.
