Artist in Residence is a PTA funded program exclusively for third graders. We hire an artist to work with the third graders on the creation of some type of art product that stays at Gifford.
This finished product could be any media: painting, basket weaving, paper mache, sculpture, drama, song writing, clay wall reliefs, reading benches, mosaic benches, photography, etc. The students work with a real artist to learn about the art process and partake in that process from start to finish. The program has been alive at Gifford for at least 30 years. Take a walk through Gifford and you will see the evidence of Artist in Residence! The artwork stays at Gifford for many years to come.
